Fitness and writing are a lot alike. Both take discipline. Both can be kind of lonely. It’s easy to no-show and nobody will say anything. The solution, find a buddy to hold yourself accountable. For workouts, that’s easy: make it social. Run or walk with a friend. Train for a marathon with an organized group. I’ve done all of those and I think I’ve built pretty good habits now. Writing, it’s not so easy. You can’t really write side-by-side at the café. I couldn’t do it. I’d rather talk to my friend.

Writers get motivated through classes or writers groups. Retreats are relaxing and inspiring.  It’s easy to not write every day however. I’ve heard about writing challenges, sort of a “writers marathon,” but I’ve never tried.

In November, I found my marathon, my workout buddy. November is NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month. Bloggers write every day of November and post their workouts on their websites and at BlogHer, the sponsor of the event. So far over 600 bloggers are taking the challenge; I will not be alone. We are given prompts to keep the momentum going. I’m hoping my readers will be behind me too—enjoying the adventure
